There is absolutely no denying the brilliance of the Explorer's entry-level engine, a 3.5-liter V6. Standard on the Base model, this six-banger dishes out a decent 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard, as is front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive, meanwhile, is optional.
We also dig the base V6 for its fuel economy. When had in front-drive form, for instance, it'll achieve 20 mpg combined (17 city/24 highway).
